Chad Steele

Vice President of Public Relations, Baltimore Ravens

Chad is an award-winning sports Public Relations professional, with a skillset which spans public relations,  corporate communications, media planning, media training, branding, crisis management, promotions, marketing strategies, public speaking, reputation management, team development, leadership and corporate relationships. Chad’s experience spans two decades with high-profile professional organizations in the NFL, one of the top global entertainment brands.

With a detailed knowledge of local and national media markets and the influence of team and individual brands, Chad has developed messaging with nation-wide visibility for high-profile organization leaders, head coaches and players, guiding the development of personal brands while balancing individual and team needs. Along with coordinating efforts between team public relations, marketing, corporate sales and digital media groups, he has been tasked with bridging business and football objectives in leadership meetings with team executives and aligning them externally with media outlets as well as team and league sponsors.

Following two training camp internships with the Carolina Panthers (1996 and ’97), he joined the Ravens as a season-long intern for the 1998 season, the year M&T Bank Stadium (then Ravens Stadium) was opened.

​

He was next with the San Francisco 49ers for three years through the 2001 season. His last role was Media Relations Coordinator.

Chad returned to the Ravens prior to the 2002 season as the Media Relations Manager and was promoted to Director of Public/Media Relations in 2006 and currently serves as the Vice President of Public Relations.

For the last 18 years, Chad has directed media efforts for the players, coaches and team executives as the primary liaison with the local and national media for the Baltimore Ravens. Additionally, Steele and his staff support other areas of the organization, including providing research for the coaching and football personnel departments, and serving the corporate sales and marketing staffs with their business development efforts.

Professional Summary:

​

Steele and the Ravens Public Relations staff are three-time recipients (2010, 2012 and 2016) of the Pete Rozelle Award. The annual award is presented by the Pro Football Writers of America, to the staff that consistently strives for excellence in its dealings and relationships with the media.

 

In 2002 and 2003 he was selected as the Conference Public Relations Director for the Pro Bowl in Honolulu, HI, becoming the first person in NFL history chosen as PR Director for two consecutive years.

 

Steele has also been assigned by the NFL league office to work Super Bowls XLVIII, 50, LI, LII and LIII, assisting in credentialing international media for the week leading up to the game and was assigned to coordinate post-game interviews for the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks (XLVII), Denver Broncos (50) and New England Patriots (LI and LIII).

 

Additionally, he was selected by the NFL league office as a representative to lead discussions on media professionalism with the 2007 NFL draft class at the Rookie Symposium.

 

In 2005, Chad was selected to attend the annual NFL/Stanford Executive Education Graduate School of Business, a program for up-and-coming NFL executives focused on Team Management, Leadership, Salary Cap Management, Diversity, Branding and Media Strategy.

 

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Winthrop University, where he led the Winthrop Eagles basketball team as co-captain.
